The hit series Tracker is getting a casting shakeup ahead of its return on CBS. One of the show’s main stars has reportedly exited the series, putting a void in the starring cast.
Per TVLine, it’s been reported that Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin in the first season, is not returning as a series regular for Season 2. Weigert’s absence hasn’t been addressed by the network at this time, and it’s not yet clear how the character’s exit will be explained in the series. While Weigert is parting ways with the series, word is that Abby McEnany is still set to appear as Velma, Teddi’s wife. Reportedly, Velma will be “taking on a very interesting role with something that was hinted at with Reenie’s (Fiona Rene) character in the final couple episodes” of the first season.
“This mother and her incredible capacity for love was an inspiration to me,” Weigert previously said about her role in Tracker in a Screen Rant interview. “It took me on a journey that I wanted to take as a human being, to walk in these shoes. I learned a lot from my character. I feel like she had a lot to teach me, and it’s rare in a lifetime to get a part that speaks to you that way. That grabs you that deeply and demands that much of you. So, I’m incredibly grateful for this experience.”
Justin Hartley Returns as Colter Shaw

Of course, Justin Hartley is back as Colter Shaw in Season 2 of Tracker. In Season 1, Weigert’s Teddi and McEnany’s Velma assisted Colter with his cases. The series also stars Eric Graise as Bobby and Fiona Rene as Reenie, while Jensen Ackles was featured in a guest appearance in Season 1. It’s been confirmed that Ackles will return as Colter’s brother in Season 2, and he’s expected to appear in multiple episodes.
“We got him, he’s coming back. We’re having fun with that, it’s a great story,” Hartley said of Ackles’ return at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. Showrunner Elwood Reid added, “I’ve worked with Jensen previously [on Big Sky] and Justin’s friends with him. It’s like family. When we text him [he says], ‘Tell me where and tell me when,’ and he shows up. He’s just that kind of guy.”
The series was created by Ben H. Winters, and it is based on the original novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver. Tracker is executive produced by Hartley, Reid, Winters, and Ken Olin.
Production on Season 2 of Tracker began in July and is expected to continue until April 2025. The new season will premiere on CBS on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, after getting moved up two weeks from its previously planned release date.
