‘SEAL Team’ star David Boreanaz teases the next installment in the long-running franchise

‘SEAL Team’ Star David Boreanaz Teases Next in Long Series

After 27 years in television, David Boreanaz isn’t ready to retire. As his role as Bravo Team leader Jason Hayes on SEAL Team comes to a close with its upcoming seventh and final season, the actor has begun looking around the industry to see what his next big project might be. He’s spent this time working nonstop, moving from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Angel, Bones and more with few major gaps between small-screen appearances. Speaking at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival on Monday, he teased what his next move will be after hanging up the helmet.

With filming on SEAL Team recently wrapped, Boreanaz is turning his attention to developing a new series that he will write, produce and potentially star in. While he didn’t want to reveal any details, he did say “I’m watching a lot of The Sopranos right now” when asked for the information. However, he said the show won’t be focused on the mafia, but will maintain the same sleek and stylish style. “You know, I like suits, I like style, I like cars,” he added. That could all start to pick up steam when his current role on Bravo-1 ends in August.

If this new series does end up being announced, Boreanaz has hinted that it could come to Paramount+ because of his close working relationship with the SEAL Team streaming service. He confirmed that he’s had ongoing discussions with the platform about potential future projects that would allow him to fully unleash his creative potential. “Yeah, Paramount+ is a great group of people, and we’ve had discussions from a director’s perspective, from a producer’s perspective, from a showrunner’s perspective,” he continued. “So some really good stuff is on the horizon.” Ultimately, Boreanaz wants to bring another of the platform’s brightest stars, Taylor Sheridan, on board as a producer, though there are some lead roles in the mix. “Obviously I’ll be working with Taylor Sheridan, of course,” he added when asked about the Yellowstone mastermind. “He’s brilliant. But I’ll be my own Taylor Sheridan.”

Meanwhile, the focus remains on getting SEAL Team out the door after delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. For six seasons so far, the series has followed Hayes and his elite team as they go on missions around the world. Presented with a dedication to accuracy and with the help of real veterans, each episode not only shows the dangers the team constantly faces during operations but also the struggles they face on a daily basis, including PTSD, trauma, and mental health in general. Season 7 will continue to deal with the aftermath of Season 6, in which Hayes revealed his own battle with brain trauma and Bravo Team lost Special Warfare Operator First Class Clay Spenser (Max Thieriot) after he was tragically killed while trying to help a suicidal veteran.

SEAL Team Season 7 doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but Boreanaz has previously teased that Bravo Team will end in August.
