Barney Walsh, who plays Cameron in Casualty and co-hosts the rebooted Gladiators with his father, Bradley Walsh, recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The actor was caught speeding at an astonishing 95mph on the M4 in March, driving his luxury 2023-plate Mercedes near Swindon, Wiltshire. He was taken to court over the incident, where he was prepared to admit he was speeding between 93mph and 95mph, though his legal team disputed the police claim that he reached 97mph.

At his court hearing on September 18, presiding magistrate Mark Baker criticized Barney for failing to attend the hearing himself, calling it “a little bit arrogant.” However, Barney’s absence was due to prior filming commitments, which had been approved by the court. Prosecutor Anna Hughes detailed how Wiltshire Police tracked Barney’s vehicle speeding past a camera, and despite the allegation of 97mph, the actor’s legal team argued he was going slightly slower and was willing to plead guilty based on that speed.

Though the typical fine for such an offense could be as much as £2,500, the magistrate reduced the fine to £1,000, giving Barney the benefit of the doubt. He also received five penalty points on his driving licence, bringing his total to eight. Additionally, Barney was ordered to pay £490 in court costs, with 28 days to settle the bill.

Barney, who has appeared in Death in Paradise, Doctors, and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, continues to make waves both on screen and in his personal life. Fans will see more of him in Casualty as Cameron, alongside his other TV appearances.
