Emmerdale’s Beth Cordingly has reassured fans about her co-star Nicholas Day, confirming he is nothing like his character.
Yesterday, Anthony Fox – played by Nicholas – was killed off.
The evil man made his arrival towards the end of last year as the father of Beth’s character Ruby-Fox Miligan. When she came face to face with her dad, Ruby was immediately shaken, sparking concern for the Emmerdale fans.
It was revealed in a flashback episode that Ruby had spent her entire life being fearful of her dad after being sexually abused by him. Her traumatic secret was then discovered by Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Caleb Miligan (William Ash) last week, who managed to work out that Anthony is the father of Ruby’s daughter Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay).
Despite Caleb planning revenge and later playing Russian Roulette with Anthony, the abuser was seemingly killed by Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
After working out Ruby’s ordeal, Aaron – who was sexually abused by his own father – confronted Anthony and brutally attacked him. He returned to the village where boyfriend John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) then learnt of what had happened.
When the couple got back to the depot, Anthony was dead.
Now Nicholas’ final scenes as Anthony have aired, Beth has taken to Instagram to share some behind the scenes pictures of them both.
Also posting adorable pictures with Georgia Jay and William Ash, Beth and Nicholas can be seen smiling at each other and holding hands.
In the caption, star Beth told fans that Nicholas is a ‘gem’.
She said: ‘In case anyone is under any illusions I just want to stress what a beautiful man Nick Day is, in real life. We were very lucky to have an actor of his calibre and talent playing my father, Anthony, in @emmerdale. It wasn’t an easy role for anyone to take on and he found playing this person extremely challenging.
‘I loved working with Nick, we all did. It was an emotional experience requiring a lot of trust and a lot of love. He’s a gem. If you see him in the street please remember he’s NOT Anthony.
She added: ‘I’m sure you all will – so forgive me for sounding patronising – I just wanted to say.
‘Sometimes, as actors, we need a little bit of protection when we put ourselves out there telling difficult stories that need to be told.’
