Coronation Street Star Vicky Myers Opens Up About Close Call for DS Lisa Swain Role

Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has shared an intriguing insight into her casting journey for the role of DS Lisa Swain on the show.

The 49 year old actress, who has portrayed DS Swain since 2021, joined Kelvin and Liz Fletcher on their podcast Off Script… Coronation Street and Emmerdale, where she discussed her previous appearances on the soap.

Kelvin, aged 41, queried during the interview: “Is it true you’ve been in Coronation Street before and that also could have possibly stopped you becoming Lisa Swain?”

Vicky confessed: “It wasn’t specifically that but I have been in Coronation Street twice before and the second time, I didn’t audition!”, revealing that her past role included scenes with Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs, and involved driving a vehicle.

She continued: “But what almost stopped me from even being asked to self tape for Lisa Swain, who wasn’t Lisa Swain, she was just DS Swain, and it was for four episodes”, reports Belfast Live.

Vicky recounted how Gennie Radcliffe, the head of casting, had a moment of hesitation about asking her to audition due to her previous portrayals of police officers.

“Head of casting, Gennie Radcliffe, pulled me to one side when we were casting for Betsy and she said ‘you know, this is quite surreal’, I’m paraphrasing there, ‘all this is happening thinking I very nearly didn’t ask you to audition for Lisa because you had played a police woman a couple of times before previously.’

“She just wondered whether if I’d be interested in doing it…”, Vicky added, noting that this week marked four years since her first appearance on the cobbles and reflecting on the development of her character.

This revelation comes as Vicky opened up last year about her return to Coronation Street as a regular cast member.

Vicky initially signed on for an eight-episode stint on the show, but is thrilled to have become a regular, describing it as a “massive opportunity” she never saw coming.

Regarding her long-term prospects on the cobbles, Vicky revealed: “It’s looking good so far! We’re only just scratching the surface with Swain!”

Beyond Coronation Street, Vicky has had roles in notable shows such as Age Before Beauty, Ackley Bridge, Unforgotten, Casualty, and The Long Shadow.
