Being the matriarch of the Platt clan on Coronation Street isn’t the easiest of tasks given the upheaval the family are in at the moment.
Since Gail left, Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) has been keeping a fairly low profile – but in upcoming episodes David (Jack P Shepherd) gives her a big decision to make.
David, of course, has recently narrowly escaped death after a car ploughed into him at high speed. This was not a simple accident, either, but a deliberate attempt by Andy (Andrew Goth) to kill him quickly and cleanly.
Acting under orders from crime lord Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) – who’d run out of patience waiting for David to pay back the money he owes – Andy was sent to kill David.
Knowing that Harvey would get him sooner or later, David asked Andy to do the job quickly and make it look like an accident so that his family would be safe.
When David stole money from Harvey he thought it would solve the family’s money worried following Bethany (Lucy Fallon) becoming seriously ill in Turkey and needing expensive treatment and to be brought back home. Unfortunately things escalated as a result of what David did, with Harvey intent on getting his money back.
It soon became clear that the Platts were being targeted, with David the dog injured and Shona (Julia Goulding) being kidnapped. When an air gun was fired through the window, the family knew they weren’t safe and fled from number 8. Sarah (Tina O’Brien) let them stay at hers as a temporary measure.
Then Max (Paddy Bever) took things further and torched the family home, hoping the insurance would pay off David’s debt to Harvey. But this backfired when Max and Toyah (Georgia Taylor) were nearly killed in the resulting blaze and Max currently faces a long prison term for his crime.
In the aftermath of the car crash, with David recovering, accusations are flying around. With Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) having also been injured in the crash it’s obvious that David can’t even manage to get himself killed without making a mess of things.

Sarah in particular is at the end of her tether with her brother and is no longer prepared to house him and his family under her roof because David attracts trouble like a magnet.
In desperation he turns to his gran, Audrey, with a proposal. Would it be possible for him, Shona and Lily (Brooke Malonie) to move into Grasmere Drive with her?
We know that Audrey values her privacy and her beloved home is her sanctuary – very much needed, given the mayhem that takes place in Coronation Street. But we also know that she’s loyal to her family and has offered them a bolthole at Grasmere Drive in the past.
Will she agree to David and family moving in with her?
