Coronation Street star who suffered anxiety due to evil character lands Emmerdale role

Former Coronation Street star Rhea Bailey has landed a new role on rival ITV soap Emmerdale.

The actress became known for her role as the villanous Caz Hammond on Corrie between 2015 and 2016.

She is now set to pop up in the Dales as a yet unnamed character.

The news was announced by Rhea’s talent agency CiekaBailey Associates.

A post on the agency’s Instagram read: ‘The talented RHEA BAILEY @rhea_bailey is back in the Dales filming more episodes of EMMERDALE for ITV.’

During her time on Coronation Street, Rhea was involved in a number of high-profile plots, including Caz’s domestic abuse of fiancée Kate Connor (Faye Brookes).

Caz later developed an obsession with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) and began stalking her, before setting it up to make it look like Maria had murdered her.

Rhea previously opened up about how playing such an evil character had affected her, revealing how she’d experienced anxiety.

Kate's shocked to realise Caz isn't injured at all. Apologising for lying to Kate, Caz insists she only did it as she wanted to postpone her return to Cyprus so they could spend more time together. She told The Sun in 2016: ‘I was getting anxious about it when I was out and about in public. It was affecting me personally.

‘I didn’t break down, but I definitely spoke to my mum about it and spoke to the bosses here and the other actors.’

Rhea added: ‘I had to ask a couple of people in the building not to refer to me as ‘evil’ while we are at work.

‘If I’m getting it out on the street I don’t want people joking about it at work, because it does bother me.’
