Manchester United fans hold protest ahead of final Premier League game of the season

While Emmerdale have always competed against rival ITV soap Coronation Street – particularly during awards season – ITV revealed that the soaps will be joining forces for the ultimate crossover episode.

Very little is known about what’s happening or who is in it, but Danny teased what viewers can expect when it airs next year.

Speaking on the Live, Laugh, Luke podcast with host Luke Hamnett, Danny shared: “Genuinely everybody’s asking the same question. We don’t know. We know who’s involved, if you’re involved, that kind of thing, that’s ultimately it.

“For these exact reasons, if they give you too much information, you could slip up. I genuinely don’t know and I’m as interested as everyone else to find out what they’re going to do with it.

“It’s very much a secret, closed off project at the moment. The powers that be know what’s going on, it trickles down to us eventually.

“The whispers are September/October time for filming it, I don’t know whether that means it’s going to be on around that time or next year, I promise you I know absolutely nothing.”

However, one thing Danny did tell listeners is that fans can expect “drama” and that it will be done in the traditional soap way, instead of feeling like “an old Comic Relief sketch”.

He continued: “I think, the one thing they’ve said, is that it won’t be someone walking into the Rovers and going ‘Oh I’ve got the wrong pub’, it’s not going to be like that.

“They don’t want to make it look like it’s just a p*** take. They want to make it a really good, high-end drama.”

The actor added: “I hope they do. Soap for me, has changed my life.”

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
