Will Trent is getting some major star power as Gina Rodriguez will be joining in season 3!

The procedural’s fans are still reeling from the wild season 2 finale. Angie (Erika Christensen) realized that it was her young protegee Crystal who’d been killing sex offenders as revenge for a past attack. Crystal accidentally died with Angie trying to cover her crimes.

But Will (Ramón Rodriguez) figured out not just that but that Angie had lied about killing the abuser Lenny when it was Crystal who did it. After briefly imagining keeping this quiet so he and Angie could have a life together, Will was forced to arrest her for evidence tampering and false testimony.

The season ended with Angie headed to jail while Will packed up and left town. That’s left fans eager to see what happens next although season 3 won’t debut until early 2025.
Thankfully, once it does, there’s a great new face attached as Deadline confirmed Gina Rodriguez will now be a series regular. The actress broke out in 2014, starring in the CW dramedy Jane the Virgin, which earned her a Golden Globe and boosted her to fame. Rodriguez later starred in the ABC comedy Not Dead Yet, which was canceled after two seasons. It’s thus great to see her landing a new acting job so soon for a big ABC hit.

Who does Gina Rodriguez play in Will Trent season 3?

Per Deadline, Rodriguez will play “Marion Alba, a charismatic, confident Assistant District Attorney new to Atlanta. After her first encounter with Will falls flat, the pair is surprised to learn that they must work together to investigate a crime in the world of Atlanta gangs.”

This first indicates that Will is coming back to the GBI despite how it seems he left the city. It may just have been Will needing a break after being forced to arrest Angie although it’s likely his attitude has shifted majorly by his actions. Given how Will is already an unorthodox guy, any change for him can be wild.

A major question is whether it’s possible for Marion to become a new love interest for Will. Obviously, they’d want to keep it professional at first as a cop and an ADA being involved is a huge conflict of interest to complicate cases. Yet, given how close they work together and Will being on the rebound from Angie, the possibility is there. Seeing Will being challenged by a new woman in his life will be a huge shift for him.

If nothing else, adding Rodriguez will be a huge boost for the show. The actress has proven herself to be a talented performer, and it’s easy to imagine her and Will engaging in nice banter, and Rodriqugez gelling with the rest of the cast. Thus, her coming onto the show can only make Will Trent season 3 the best year yet.
