Home and Away star beaten to death in prison, previously arrested for ‘assaulting a woman and three men’

Home and Away child star Felix Dean, who played VJ Patterson for seven years, has been charged with allegedly assaulting a woman and three men

Home and Away child actor Felix Dean has been charged with allegedly assaulting a woman and three men in two separate incidents.

Dean, 26, appeared on the soap from 2007 to 2014 as VJ Patterson. He is accused of assaulting two men and a woman in Newtown, Sydney, on April 30 between 9pm and 9.15am.

He is also accused of assaulting a man with intent to robbery in Botany on May 28 between 8.25pm and 8.35pm. Dean is being held in Junee Correctional Centre in the NSW Riverina district and has pleaded not guilty to three counts of common assault and one of assault with intent to rob.

It comes after the former child star was convicted of battering a shopkeeper with a hammer. He was on bail at the time for reportedly attacking a police officer.

Dean went to a tobacco shop in Surry Hills in 2021 with a hammer before hitting the worker with it. The male employee suffered minor head injuries.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics. Dean was on bail for two other assaults which included a strict 6pm curfew among other conditions.

It was the fourth time Dean had been arrested in two years. He pleaded guilty to assaulting police, affray, assault with intent to rob, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of recklessly damaging property and shoplifting.

Magistrate Alison Viney sentenced Dean to 19 months’ prison with a minimum term of 11 months, backdated to commence the previous July to take into account time he had already spent in custody.

Dean undertook the acting role when he was 10-years-old from 2007 until 2014, where he was nominated for Best Young Actor in 2008 and 2009 at the Inside Soap Awards.

He played the son of actress Ada Nicodemou’s character Lea Patterson. During his time on Home and Away, Dean also appeared in several TV adverts and in the play Bondi Dreaming, which was at the Bondi Pavillion Theatre in 2011.

At the age of seven-years-old, the actor appeared in the TV mini series Jessica, before playing Todd McFarlane in All Saints in 2006 and appearing in Comedy Inc in 2007.

Dean left Home and Away in 2014 and has not had an acting credit since. His character was recast with actor Matt Little taking on the role.
