In an exciting update for Home and Away fans, Philippa Northeast, who played Evelyn “Evie” MacGuire, has expressed openness to reprising her role on the long-running Australian soap. Northeast originally portrayed Evie for four years until her departure in 2017, and her character left the storyline rather than meeting a tragic end, which allows the possibility of her return.
Northeast recently shared with Now to Love that she’d consider coming back if the storyline were right. “If the story was there, I’d absolutely be open to returning,” she said, reflecting fondly on her time on the show.
Northeast noted how seeing the Home and Away team at the Logie Awards brought back a flood of memories, almost as if a part of her extended family was just across the room. During her time on the show, Evie’s storyline was full of shocking twists, with many of her loved ones meeting unfortunate ends, which made for intense and dramatic scenes. “We joked that Evie was the bigger curse, with everyone around her dying,” Northeast recalled. She added that while the plotlines provided suspense, she was also relieved her character wasn’t written off in a tragic way, keeping the door open for a potential return.

Northeast isn’t alone in her feelings; Bonnie Sveen, who played Ricky Sharpe until 2016, also expressed hopes of a return. Sveen recently shared the joy of reconnecting with her former co-stars and admitted to feeling nostalgic about her time on the soap. For both actresses, Home and Away holds a special place in their hearts and, perhaps, in their futures.
