With Tracker losing a regular cast member ahead of Season 3, is Colter in for more drama?
Tracker was the breakout hit of the 2023-2024 TV season, with Justin Hartley returning from This Is Us in the lead role. The show launched with a relatively small cast, as Colter Shaw’s job required him to travel to new locations with new guest stars each week, but that cast has just been reduced. With just a few months to go before the show returns to the 2024 TV schedule, Tracker has lost Robin Weigert as a series regular.
Best known on the small screen as part of the Deadwood cast before joining Justin Hartley’s CBS series, Robin Weigert played Teddi Bruin in the first season as one of Colter’s handlers alongside his wife Velma, played by Work in Progress alum Abby McEnany. TVLine reported Weigert’s departure, though CBS has not commented at press time to clarify how Teddi’s absence will be handled.
Showrunner Elwood Reid previously teased to the outlet that the Season 3 premiere — which may also feature Jensen Ackles as Russell Shaw — will feature a “very interesting role” for Velma, without mentioning Teddi. While details are currently scarce, it seems like Weigert’s decision to leave was made during the summer hiatus.
The actress joined Justin Hartley, Abby McEnany, Eric Graise, and Fiona Rene for CBS’s New Fall Schedule Celebration in May, which celebrates the shows returning for the 2024-2025 television season. Check it out: This news makes me wonder if tragedy is on the horizon for Colter and the rest of the cast, who will be sticking around for Season 3. There were no serious signs in the first season that Teddi or Velma were considering leaving their jobs as Colter’s handlers, and their marriage didn’t seem to be in trouble. Could Tracker kill him off?
Well, considering how my previous concerns about Season 3 were unfounded, we shouldn’t expect the most dire scenarios right now. It’s worth noting that TVLine has only confirmed that Robin Weigert will not be returning as a series regular; she’ll presumably stick around or at least make a guest appearance in Season 3 to cover for Teddi’s absence. It’s unclear at this point whether the new season will pick up where Teddi left off.
The Season 1 ending set up an intriguing new storyline for Colter in the second season, even if it didn’t give us any clues as to what might happen to Teddi and Velma. The finale is a twist with the shocking reveal of Colter’s sister, who had previously said she wanted nothing to do with the mysteries surrounding her father’s death.
Justin Hartley overcame an “exhausting” schedule for the first season, which certainly paid off with an early renewal and impressive ratings. CBS brought some good news to fans of the show over the summer, as Season 3 will premiere two weeks earlier than originally announced. You can expect the first episode of the 2024-2025 TV season on Sunday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET. In the final weeks before the premiere, you can also rewatch the entire first season streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.
