Coronation Street has seemingly confirmed Rob Donovan’s future after holding his sister Carla Connor hostage and following the scenes, fans were left saying the same thing.
The convicted murderer was on the run for weeks before his made his return to Weatherfield, almost 11 years after he killed Tina McIntyre, and let Peter Barlow be convicted for the crime before the truth was uncovered.
As fans of the ITV soap know, Rob has been on the run since he was pushed down the stairs by his sister Carla Connor last month, amid his prison escape plan.
He used an opportunity to be a kidney donor to plot his freedom. But it didn’t go as Rob had hoped after Carla’s girlfriend DS Lisa Swain tricked him into going through with the operation before he could escape.
It was then last week that Rob was seen back on the Street and looked to his ex-fiancée Tracy Barlow for help. She reluctantly agreed to harbour the criminal but as his desperation to stay a free man increased, so did his erratic behaviour.
Tracy discovered Rob had a gun, and he didn’t seem afraid to use it, when she insisted on calling an ambulance with his health in an obvious decline as he bled from his surgical wound.

Despite being in a bad way, bleeding on Ken Barlow’s sofa at No.1 Coronation Street, Rob made it clear he didn’t want Tracy to call for an ambulance and demanded that she call Carla.
Afraid for her own life, Tracy agreed and she create a ruse to ensure the Underworld factory boss turned up. Carla was horrified when she did arrive and Rob soon forced Tracy to serve Carla an out-of-date meal of spaghetti on toast.
Rob then went on to reveal his plan to use the gun on them and secure his own death at the hands of the police, and Carla attempted to calm Rob down by discussing memories from their childhood. Distracting him, Tracy seized her chance to escape, raising the alarm with Lisa on the way out.
Angered, Rob threatened to shoot Carla and then himself before they were both surprised by Lisa’s arrival, who couldn’t help but intervene having called the situation in to her colleague DC Kit Green.
The new couple were then trapped by an armed and dangerous Rob, whose demands and behaviour was becoming more erratic as time went on. Not willing to wait any longer, Lisa took her chance to disarm Rob but it ended up in a tussle for the gun before a shot rang out.
Armed police quickly stormed the house and despite everything, Carla jumped to protect Rob. With him no longer armed, Kit arrested Rob for false imprisonment and possession of a firearm, while it was confirmed that Lisa and Carla weren’t physically hurt in the drama.

But the same couldn’t be said for Lisa’s daughter, Betsy Swain. In a shock turn of events, Lisa was horrified to hear that there had been a casualty when the gun went off and making her way into the ginnel, she was horrified to find Betsy on the ground as she had suffered a bullet wound to the shoulder.
Following the scenes, Corrie fans quickly flocked to social media to have their say on what they’d witnessed and were full of praise for Marc Baylis’ portrayal of Rob, who now seems certain for another prison-based exit rather than a permanent death one.
