Fans of BBC One soap EastEnders were given fresh hope about Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell (Samantha Womack and Rita Simons) while watching an episode that aired this week.

The iconic Mitchells were killed off on New Year’s Day in 2017, when both characters drowned in a swimming pool.

The audience still aren’t over the tragic deaths, and often find themselves hoping one day, a massive plot twist will air that either sees one or both of the sisters return.

Because if Cindy Beale can come back from the dead, anything is possible, right?

Recently in the show, Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) mentioned that she was going to Ibiza for two weeks…with her sister.

It was a tiny scene that more than likely didn’t hint at any foreshadowing, but because of Ronnie and Roxy’s previous connection to Ibiza, it’s left a few fans convinced Nicola is going to see one of them.

‘NEED Nicola’s sister to appear ASAP #EastEnders’, a user of X wrote in a post.

‘They loom!’,another simply said, referencing the siblings.

Despite the hope, plenty are aware that things would get awfully complicated and quite dark if Nicola ended up being a blood relative of Ronnie and Roxy, given she shares two children with Teddy (Roland Manookian), Billy’s (Perry Fenwick) brother.

‘Nicola mentions she has a sister in ibiza and everyone automatically assumes it’s roxy..baring in mind nicola is only a mitchell through marriage so it’s impossible’, an audience member pointed out.

Since her arrival, Nicola has caused quite a stir in Walford.

This month, we learnt that she was responsible for killing Harry’s (Elijah Holloway) girlfriend, Shireen.

With Teddy in the dark about this, Nicola has desperately tried to talk him out of doing a business deal in Dartford, where the family used to live, worried it could lead him to her murderous secret.

Actress Laura Doddington, who plays Nicola, said her character will be ‘pushed to the edge’ in the coming weeks.

‘She’s tested on how far love, manipulation, and lying can get her,’ she said.

‘One thing I’ve discovered playing the character recently is that carrying these secrets around and watching her son suffer as a consequence has been harder on her than she ever thought.’
