Yellowstone aired its finale last week, leaving fans reeling after the gripping fifth season. The series created by Taylor Sheridan has several spinoffs airing and even more in the works. The last season was unlike the others, as it saw the exit of patriarch John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner.
The finale was controversial, as some fans said they thought it was the worst episode to date. Some fans are still hoping for a sixth season, even theorizing what the plot could be.

As of present, Yellowstone will not be coming back for another season. Paramount Network said in May 2023 that the fifth season would be its last.
This came amid rumors of drama on set between Costner and Sheridan. It occurred as Costner was filming his passion project Horizon, which was generally met with unfavorable reviews.
Due to the conflict, Costner announced he wasn’t returning to the second half of season five. His character died midway through the season, leaving his children to run the ranch without him.

Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth, told the New York Times in November that the show was “absolutely ending” after season five. Cole Hauser, however, who plays Rip, had different reports.
He told The Hollywood Reporter, also in November, that he could see his character having a life beyond season five.
He said: “Taylor can figure out how to absolutely continue if he wants to.
“But that’s just Taylor being a brilliant writer. I’m not telling you that it is continuing, it’s just that he’s smart enough as a writer to do that if that’s something that he is passionate about.”

Though that sounds final, some fans still speculate there is more to come. That’s because a teaser for the final episode on X called it the “season finale,” not the “series finale.”

Deadline has since reported that Reilly and Hauser’s characters Beth and Rip are set to reprise their roles in a future spin off series.
