In this week’s biggest soap news, Emmerdale gave fans a sneak peek at the months ahead with some special flashforward scenes.
Elsewhere, EastEnders announced a big-name return for the soap’s 40th anniversary, while Coronation Street fans heard whispers of potential comebacks for two fan favourites.
Did you miss any headlines this week? Don’t worry, as we’re on hand with our regular Sunday round-up of the major gossip from the past seven days.
Emmerdale teases 2025 death plots
Emmerdale played with time in the final episode of 2024, as five flashforward scenes teased some of the biggest storylines to come over the next few months.
Of course, there were more questions than answers. Cain was seen mourning at someone’s grave, while another scene showed a wrapped-up body being disposed of in a river.
Elsewhere, Caleb could be seen in a life-or-death situation at the hospital, Mackenzie was spotted frantically running through some woods, and someone found themselves desperate for help while trapped beneath ice.
With death and danger on the cards, it looks like 2025 could mark the end for some key characters – but were there any red herrings in the mix?
Coronation Street returns for Gail and Eva?
It’s only been a week since Coronation Street waved goodbye to Gail, but we may not have seen the last of her even though she’s enjoying her happy-ever-after in France.
Executive producer Iain MacLeod surprised fans this week by revealing that Helen Worth had spoken to him about potential returns, agreeing to consider coming back for important Platt family storylines.
Meanwhile, Catherine Tyldesley – who played Eva Price – revealed that Corrie bosses have secretly approached her about returning on more than one occasion in recent years.
While it’s never been the right time for Catherine so far, she’s left the door open with every former cast member’s favourite phrase: “Never say never”.
Two big Neighbours returns confirmed
Neighbours has kicked off the year with two exciting announcements, confirming that classic characters Tess Bell and Darcy Tyler will both be heading back to Ramsay Street.
Tess was last seen for a brief cameo in the school closure storyline in 2023, while bad boy Darcy hasn’t featured on the show since 2005.
Neighbours returns to Prime Video on Monday (January 6) following its two-week Christmas and New Year break.
EastEnders return for Grant Mitchell
It had long been expected by fans, but EastEnders has finally confirmed the big news that Ross Kemp is reprising his role as Grant Mitchell as the show heads towards its 40th anniversary.
Grant’s comeback storyline is shrouded in secrecy, but producers have promised “explosive” scenes as he reunites with the likes of Sharon and Phil.
Executive producer Chris Clenshaw teased: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Ross Kemp back to EastEnders as he reprises the legendary role of Grant Mitchell.
“Whilst I’m not currently revealing exactly what brings Grant back to Walford, I can say that his return will play a significant part in the show’s 40th anniversary, and will make up many moments of truly unmissable TV.”
