SWAT: Shemar Moore introduces the final episode and the possible return of the characters in season 8

SWAT will return for its eighth season in the fall, but the upcoming season finale is being written as a series finale. Star Shemar Moore said that the episode could also be seen as a new beginning for the series.
Starring Moore, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Rochelle Aytes and Anna Enger Ritch, the CBS series follows Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore) as he leads the LAPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) unit.
Moore spoke about the series’ surprise renewal at a recent CBS event. He said the following, according to Deadline:
“We are very smart. When the strike ended, the producers and writers and I gathered at home and said, ‘Okay, what are we going to do this year?’ I said, ‘In that case, let’s go out in a big way. Let’s give them our signature. Give them the action: helicopters, chase scenes, motorcycle chase scenes, fight scenes, Hondo sprinting through an alley. Stir them up.”
We have three more episodes to finish [airing] this season. So when you get to the end, you’ll see we’ve framed it in a way that it’s either a swan song or a new beginning. We really didn’t change anything in the text.”
SWAT saw several cast members leave in what was supposed to be its final season. Both Alex Russell and Kenny Johnson left the series, but could their characters return in season eight?
“It’s hard to say goodbye to a great group of people,” Moore said. Alex Russell, Kenny Johnson and a few seasons ago we lost Lina Esco. Change is difficult; so now we have some OGs, me Hondo, Deacon [Jay Harrington], Hicks [Patrick St. Esprit], Tan [David Lim] and some new people. But for those you remember, no one died. And in the world of Hollywood, anything can happen.”
What do you think? Are you planning on watching season eight of this CBS series? Would you like to see Russell and Johnson return?
