After six seasons of intense action and emotional depth, the SEAL Team series is coming to an end. The physical demands of playing Master Chief Jason Hayes have taken their toll on David Boreanaz.
As the final curtain falls on the 2024  television schedule, it’s time for the military drama SEAL Team to ramp up and prepare for its seventh and final season. The show has always been about fast-paced action and emotional storytelling; it’s proven to be a surefire hit with audiences, but Bravo is ending—at least the way it was supposed to end.

For David Boreanaz, who has played Master Chief Jason Hayes since the first episode of SEAL Team, the grueling physical work is a big part of the job. That kind of grueling work for actors and stunt crew on procedural dramas always catches up, and Boreanaz was no exception. He really put pressure on his body, which started to show up more and more as filming progressed. Reflecting on this, Boreanaz shared with People that the decision to end the series at this point was the right one, as his body “couldn’t take it anymore.”

Describing one of the most physically challenging moments on set, Boreanaz recounted an incident that showed how real the physicality became for him. “When I was ten feet in, I hit a rock, twisted my ankle, and I fell,” he revealed. He was forced to push through the pain, much like the SEALs themselves, who manage to deal with serious injuries with laughter and resilience.

“My ankle was swollen, but I had to keep going,” Boreanaz continued. “You learn from the SEALs how to deal with pain. I mean guys who have amputated arms and tell jokes because that’s how they deal with it. It’s intense.” Over time, the physical toll became unbearable, and the actor confessed, “At some point, your body just stops moving. I think I’ve had four MRIs in the last four months, my knee, my hip, my shoulder. It’s been a long journey.”

Despite the physical challenges, SEAL Team holds a special place in Boreanaz’s heart. As production wrapped, he shared his gratitude for each member of the cast, crew, and writers, truly everyone involved in making this show a reality. To that end, he released an emotional message in which he praised the entire SEAL Team family and shared how much his portrayal of Jason Hayes meant to him. He acknowledged how close the role was to him, how much it meant to the men and women in the military, and how much their stories meant to them when they saw themselves portrayed on screen. As SEAL Team enters its final season, the stakes are higher than ever. More explosive action and more dangerous stunts await. That means the cast will once again be stretched to their limits. to the limit as Bravo’s story comes to an end.
