Shelley King has been confirmed as the next star set to leave Coronation Street.

It is understood that Shelley, who plays Yasmeen Nazir, will depart in coming weeks.

The actress has starred in the show for just over a decade, arriving as part of the Nazir family.

A show insider has clarified: ‘Shelley spoke to producers early last year and advised that after 10 years on the show and being involved in many major storylines during the past decade she had decided the time has come for her to explore other opportunities.

‘Shelley is an accomplished stage and television actress and we fully understand her desire to take her career in another direction after 10 years playing the same role.

‘She filmed her final scenes in December.’

With Metro understanding that Yasmeen won’t be killed off, it certainly increases the possibility she will reunite with former partner Stu Carpenter during her departure storyline.

Bill Fellows left his role as Stu towards the end of last year. The character said goodbye to Weatherfield for Germany so he could be with granddaughter Eliza and her dad Dom.

Given everything Yasmeen has been through during her time on the cobbles, a fresh start abroad could be exactly what she needs.

Shelley is one of the many Coronation Street stars set to leave the show in the coming months. As it stands, Sue Cleaver, Colson Smith, Charlotte Jordan, Sue Devaney and Lucy Fallon will say their farewells soon.

Changes are also occurring in Emmerdale, with Susan Cookson, Lesley Dunlop, Paula Lane and Roxy Shahidi all leaving.
